Dianne Gardner, an award winning author, is also an illustrator living in the Pacific Northwest, USA. She’s an active member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and the National League of American Pen Women. Her Ian’s Realm series is published by PDMI Publishing LLC along with four short stories in the A Tale of the Four Wizards series. Her most recent book Altered will be published this year by Master Koda Publishing. She writes for middle grade and young adults targeting boys and adventure loving girls, and the young at heart.
Here’s what Dianne says about her new book, Altered:
Altered is a story about a family very much like those I see today. A single working mom is trying to raise two kids. The difference between today’s world, and the Altered environment is that the mother has to struggle to keep her family together during a world-military takeover that has already put into place a plan to manipulate its subjects through the food supply.
There are two things that drove this story into being.
1. Current events concerning the manipulation of our American farms and ultimately our food supply.
2. My experience living in the Southwest desert and learning and understanding not only Hopi legend, but the simple Native American way of life which is harmonious to nature.
Nature will always be a part of my novels. In my first series The Ian’s Realm Saga, Ian steps through a portal to a place called the Realm, where the country is absolutely beautiful, pristine, and wild. Mountains, prairies, ocean and woods…These are all landscapes that I have experienced and love dearly.
In Altered, a dystopian novel, this struggling family is watching what was once a beautiful world deteriorate before their eyes where everything natural is disappearing and with it, the future of mankind.
I hate to think negatively about the future. I have sixteen grandchildren and I would hope that the world we leave them would be a better place. It’s my will that we leave future generations an environment more like the Realm, clean and rich and wild, rather than like the broken shell we see in my novel Altered.
If this book can make a difference, even in one person’s life, then I will be content that it’s done its job!
