Are you a bestselling author or not?

1884415So…you’ve hit number one on Amazon. Congrats! But are you entitled to call yourself a bestselling author now? I’ve hit Amazon’s bestselling lists multiple times and yet I’m shy to say it out loud. I’ve even hit the wanted #1 spot and stayed there more than one week, and yet I find it a bit bragging to admit it. There have been a lot of speculations of authors advertising their books as bestsellers even if they hit the list once and stayed there an hour or so, so I wanted to put my spoon in the soup as well…

Please, remember that this is just my opinion and comes from the experience I’ve had…

Okay, first of all, it takes a lot of preparations before a book campaign goes live. I contacted several bloggers, created a bunch of promotional pictures, submitted my book to many sites which advertise free/bargain books…and a couple of days before the actual campaign started did some of the previously said again. When ‘THE’ day came I made sure to visit every blog that was promoting my book, posted as many tweets about the sale as I could without spamming my readers, asked people to re-tweet my tweets, used Instagram, Pinterest…anything I could think of to spread the word the best I could. I can’t say how many hours this all took, but it was a lot…and it paid off. My book hit #1 in four lists at the same time.

Did I earn the bragging rights? I know some would say no, some yes… But in my opinion you don’t get to be number 1 for nothing. Sure, there are tricks to get your book there, but to stay there…that takes blood and sweat, great connections and a will to work your butt off for your work.

About jenniferloiske

Jennifer Loiske lives in Finland in Naantali, which is a small sunny town on the southwest coast. She is a pre-school teacher by profession but she stayed at home when her youngest daughter suffered brain fever, which developed severe epilepsy in 2004. She is a workaholic Teen/Young Adult author, who loves dark fantasy, teen movies, chips and candies and warm sunny days. She’s also very keen on charity work and a big part of her royalties goes to the charity; mainly to help families with epileptic children but also to the epilepsy units in the hospitals. As a huge fan of dark novels Jennifer's bookshelf is full of books from L.J. Smith, Alyson Noel, Stephanie Meyer, Chloe Neill, Michelle Rowen, Jennifer L. Armentrout, Amanda Hocking and Lauren Kate. She’s also a huge fan of music from Evanescence, Linkin Park, Within Temptation, OneRepublic and Disturbed. But her hunger for music is endless and depend on what mood she’s in or what kind of book she’s working on. She can be pretty much an omnivore when it comes to music.

I am so proud of you and I don’t even know you! Well done this is truly incredible. People fail to recognise that it takes hard work and talent to become a bestseller so congratulations! You have written an incredible post by the way and I have to tell you that I love your blog!
